Our newest reading unit is poetry. We have
discussed some differences between poems and chapter books/ fiction stories.
The five senses (hear, see, smell, taste, and touch) are an important component
to many poems. In order to make this more relevant, the students had the
opportunity to read poetry books in partnerships to find the five senses. Then
we discussed how the five senses help readers visualize (picture) what the
author is talking about.
